Skipping Christmas
the (unofficial for now) musical
lovingly based on the John Grisham novel
The best part of Christmas isn't rushing around to find the perfect present or holiday roast for the family party. And while it’s nice to see the look on their faces as they tear through the paper or sit down to dinner, deep down, we all know that the Christmas company isn’t perfect either! Why do so many of us find joy in a holiday that piles deliberate delirium on top of our daily grind? Why must we earn the warmth of a restful vacation? Why not just skip right to it?
After their daughter Blair decides to go away on a mission trip for the season, Luther and Nora decide they will skip out on the Christmas commercialization altogether this year… by going on a big-budget cruise! That is until Blair has a change of heart on Christmas Eve and decides to come home for some holiday tradition after all. Luther and Nora must now throw together a last-minute party with the selfish generosity of the neighbors they ticked off all season. Skipping Christmas is about the spirit of commodified giving, and finding meaning within it.

Listen to a Demo:
To test the idea for a musical homage to John Grisham’s story, we workshopped and produced a fully designed, self-contained adaptation of Chapter 12 of the novel. We rehearsed and recorded it across two days in a recording studio in Brooklyn; special thanks to Jeanine Bruen, Michael Fiocco, Aigner Mizzelle, and May Yoshioka for their talent and work.
Listen below to a demo of our work. If you want to hear the full chapter adaptation, follow this link!
